By bringing Ebertfest to Champaign-Urbana, esteemed Pulitzer Prize winner, Roger Ebert, gave back to his hometown and the University where he studied by instilling a whole new cultural vibe into the community he so loved. It put our towns and UIUC’s College of Media on the movie industry’s map. Eberfest enables its attendees to meet and visit with actors, directors and producers from the film industry, an opportunity that most of us would never have otherwise.
Now Central Illinoisians and movie lovers everywhere have an opportunity to embrace the legacy Roger Ebert created by contributing towards the commissioning of a life-size sculpture of Roger to be placed outside the historic Virginia Theater located in downtown Champaign, home to the Ebertfest film festival.
We invite all those touched by Roger’s life to join in honoring Roger and funding this sculpture. Theater goers and Ebert fans will find Roger sitting in a row of theater seats in the plaza to the East of the entrance to the Virginia Theatre displaying his signature “thumbs up” gesture. The sculpture, titled C-U at the Movies, is planned to be unveiled and dedicated at the 2014 Ebertfest.
Please indicate “Ebert Sculpture” in the field titled Designation.
